Sof’s love letter to Sof

What a messy, chaotic alcoholic you can be

But despite it all, and some days because of it, I really do like you

I like that you don’t take yourself or the events of the world too seriously
Because you know that although it feels monumental at the time,
we’ll all be dust eventually

I like that you could spend all day watching the birds move as a unit from one telephone wire to the other
And that you realize how every now and again the conversation at the next table over is more interesting than yours

I like that you like to learn
that you want to try everything, do everything and be everywhere. Read every book, listen to every song
and one day buy a motorcycle to scare your mom

I like that when you hear the sounds of a siren, a train or construction, that a smile creeps to your face
Loud noises that signify movement or change,
making you think of the world and lives being lived outside of yours

I like the fact that you don’t get too attached
Although sometimes I don’t like that fact

I like that you notice things like this
A little feather, so perfectly centered on the welcome mat of a good friend’s porch
The sun refracted through the screen door touching it gently

Most of all I like that I still love you, despite your occasional mess
And that for better or worse we’re in this together so you might as we love me too
